Facts of Life

>> November 11, 2012

You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have...the facts of life.

This week I've been singing the lyrics to the Facts of Life TV show. Maybe it's because I'm rooting for former FOL star, Lisa Welchel, on Survivor.

I remember the FOL theme song as upbeat with snippets of hilarious boarding school life full of smiles. But if you were to focus on the words, it truly does sum up life. There's one phrase that I never noticed until I googled the silly earworm.
When the world never seems to be living up to your dreams...
My dreams tend to be a hope that is just out of reach. And for me it's not "the world" but "life". When life never seems to be living up to my dreams. I'm a selfish human being. I want my dreams to come true. But I constantly strive to put my trust in the One who has a purpose and a plan for me and also knows my dreams. I push forward. I accept the good, accept the bad, take them both and there I have it, the facts of life. After all, it does rain on the just and the unjust alike.

What about you? Are the facts of life overruling your hopes and dreams right now? Are you taking the bad and not seeing the good? Maybe this little blog post feels a bit cliche-ish, yet you know it's truth. Sometimes the simple truth is what we need to cause us to pull ourselves out of a selfish slump.
Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
Give it a try. Join me in my deliberate effort. Let's wake up tomorrow and start our day by finding delight in the Lord. Tell me how it goes for you. I'd love to know.

It may be a universal slump. Praying for you, Mari. You've got a plate full when all I really hope for you is a little dessert.
